Serenade to the Supernatural
Samuel Richardson, born in 1998 and based in Richmond, emerges as a distinctive painter whose work deftly binds the divides between heaven and hell. In the hallucinatory realms of Richardson's work, uncertainty unveils itself, becoming a central theme that captivates the observer's imagination. His artistic philosophy delves into unearthly phenomena, dissecting and reshaping them to portray a modern world where the prospect of non-human coexistence becomes imminent. Through his works, Richardson invites viewers into a thought-provoking journey, navigating the liminal spaces that bridge the mystical and the mundane, challenging perceptions and offering a unique perspective on the coalescence of the otherworldly within contemporary life.
Veiled in the mystery of unknown events, Richardson’s realms stand as haunting testaments to astral phenomenon. In his new series, Serenade to the Supernatural, these scenes bear witness to forces beyond comprehension, leaving behind a ghostly landscape where the whispers of untold stories linger amidst the echoes of perplexed comprehension. No eyewitness accounts can unravel the mystery, for the events that unfold in Richardson’s work are beyond the realm of human experience. Is it the ethereal presence of ghosts, the enigmatic arrival of extraterrestrial beings, or some unfathomable otherworldly force that renders these scenes into a puzzling riddle? Yet, in desolate silence, where the mysteries of the phenomena weigh heavy, a glimmer of hope persists as the sun dutifully rises. Its warm rays cast a celestial glow, revealing a stark contrast between the shadows of the unknown and the promise of a new day. In the quiet clearness, the future of these realms remain suspended.

Places shape us — and we in turn shape them — because they can satisfy various identity motives, such as our fundamental need for a “home,” to feel belonging and acceptance, to learn and grow, and to have a sense of continuity over time and coherence about who we are. Thus, we are grounded by the very earth we stand on and come from.
In this juried exhibition we invited artists to submit works of art that fit within the Landscape genre, but open to all art media.

Bill Nicholson is the President of PAAL and has been on the board of the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center for over 10 years. Through PAAL, Bill is merging his two great passions, the arts and the welfare of children, giving a voice to children who feel they are not heard. The BSCC has created animated videos to help teach children how to identify predators and to protect themselves. These videos have surpassed over 1 billion impressions and over 102,000,000 (One hundred two million views.) One of my goals is to get these into all local schools.
